L/Sa has been working since 2002 with the Los Angeles County Community Development Commission to provide design and construction documents for the renovation of businesses located in underserved communities throughout LA County. Our firm is proud to have completed over 100 of these projects thus far. The program seeks to rejuvenate neighborhoods through grants (typically a limited budget of $10,000 – $50,000 per storefront), to upgrade building aesthetics, accessibility and infrastructure. The architects and CDC work directly with local businesspeople to provide designs that respond to the needs and aspirations of the shop owners and the community at large. Since commencing these projects the firm has adopted a production methodology applying standards and procedures developed in conjunction with the CDC, allowing for creative, well-designed solutions to these low-cost and time-sensitive projects.
