The Manhattan Beach Badminton Club was founded in 1936, and is the oldest such club on the West Coast. The original facility is much beloved in the local community, but the existing buildings dating from the early 1960’s were in need of upgrades to meet the demands of growing membership. New work is intended to improve aesthetics, safety, and accessibility throughout the property, and is intended to complement the historic character of the original property. A two-phase design solution was developed, with the first phase dedicated to addressing accessibilty requirements. Phase One included exterior improvements to entrances, ramps, outdoor gathering spaces, landscape, and the renovation of the interior lobby spaces. Phase Two, which will start in 2017, will include the renovation of locker rooms, restrooms, and dining areas.
