Los Angeles Southwest College Campus Improvements

PROJECT TYPE  Education /
Urban Design + Landscape
LOCATION  Los Angeles, CA

College campuses can be confusing (and even intimidating) places for prospective students and their families.   Southwest College, in contrast, has a mission of engagement with the community – this means opening the campus to visitors who may be unfamiliar with the campus layout and its amenities.  The Los Angeles Southwest College project will provide new circulation corridors, and wayfinding, information and identity signage at key areas of the campus. The project will help remedy some of the wayfinding deficiencies on campus and help establish a sense of campus identity.
Included are three large digital signs at the perimeter of the campus, new digital kiosks and campus maps, a building identification signage program across the campus, as well as new plazas and a new pedestrian walk, named Cub Way, which will connect the Student Union building to other areas on campus. Sustainable features include drought-tolerant landscape features, LED lighting, and the use of eco-friendly and recycled materials throughout.
